KEYNOTE AND PANEL MODERATION, SEPTEMBER 2025 - Leipzig, Germany

At the Filmkunstmesse in Leipzig, AC Coppens gave a keynote and moderated a panel on the future of cinema.

The keynote looked back at the changes cinema and the media landscape at large have been undergoing in the last years, and offered insights into how they may develop in the future.

AC’s talk was followed by a panel they moderated, titled “Wellen des Wandels” (Waves of Change), featuring Julia Maier-Hauff, Director of PROG, representing independent producers, Peter Schauerte, Director of AllScreens, representing the film and video industry, Dr. Christian Bräuer, Chair of AG Kino – Gilde, representing arthouse cinemas, alongside Martin Rabanus, SPD Bundestag member and culture and media spokesperson, and Dr. Jan Ole Püschel, Head of Media and Film at BKM.

The conversation highlighted how cinemas are communal spaces - offering deep, physical engagement with stories, that are still largely free from algorithmic influence. But with shifts in technology such as AI, new generational habits, scarcity of public funding, and wider social change, their role in the cultural value chain must be rethought.
