Deutscher Musikrat Fachtagung

Musik und Demokratie, OCTOBER 2025

On 24 October 2025, the Deutscher Musikrat held the Fachtagung “Musik und Demokratie” in Berlin as part of its general assembly. More than 100 participants from music, cultural policy, academia, and civil society attended. The event was moderated by AC Coppens.

Speakers, including Ulrike Liedtke, Udo Dahmen, and Barbara Hornberger, addressed how music and democratic values intersect, focusing on participation, inclusion, collective creation, and social responsibility.

The discussions culminated in a resolution titled Musikleben fördert die Demokratie!, adopted on 25 October 2025, which calls for stronger support for music as a means to foster inclusion, diversity, and democratic participation in society.
